Hotspot Billing System for Kenya

WiFi mtaani, estate and market hotspots, hotels, safari lodges, hostels and campuses in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret: sell WiFi by the hour, day or week on vouchers, with a speed and data limit per user and a record of every session - managed remotely by iberry.

What a Kenyan hotspot business needs from its billing

Most hotspots in Kenya sell small packages - an hour, a day, a week - to people whose phone data is costly. The billing has to make vouchers in batches, give each one a time, speed and data allowance, show what each agent sold, and keep one heavy user from slowing everyone down. That is what turns a MikroTik router and a few access points into a business.

iberry does this from the cloud: your MikroTik (or Omada/UniFi) equipment sends each login to the iberry platform, which checks the voucher, applies its limits and records the session. There is no billing server or PC to keep running at the site.

Features

🎟️

Voucher batches

Hourly, daily, weekly and monthly vouchers or data bundles, printed as QR cards or codes, one batch per agent so you see who sold what.

⏱️

Speed and data caps

A speed cap and data allowance on every package, so a costly fibre or wireless line is shared fairly at peak hours.

📊

Sales and usage

Active users, sessions and data per site and per voucher batch, for one hotspot or many towns.

🎨

Your own login page

Your brand, prices and terms on the login page - see the captive portal themes.

🔌

Two lines, power cuts

Automatic failover to a second line, and the router keeps its own login page so guests are not stuck when the cloud link drops.

📋

Session records

Who logged in, with which voucher, from which device, when and how much - available when you are asked.

About M-Pesa

Payment by M-Pesa or Airtel Money on the login page itself is not built into the platform today. What works from the first day is the way most hotspots already sell: vouchers sold for cash or mobile money by your agents, shop counter or front desk.

If paying by M-Pesa straight from the login page matters to your business, tell us - it is the most requested addition from Kenya.

Rules to check in Kenya

Selling internet access, registering users and keeping records can need a licence or registration with the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), and wireless equipment generally needs CA type approval. Personal data such as phone numbers falls under the Data Protection Act, 2019, overseen by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. Check what applies to your business before launch; we set up the records to match, but we do not give legal advice.

How we deliver outside India

1. Plan

You send the site layout, the number of rooms or users and your internet line. We design the network and the login: vouchers, SMS OTP if an SMS route to your mobile networks is confirmed, or room-and-surname login if your PMS can be reached.

2. Hardware

We ship the router, access points and switches from India through our shop wifishop.in, or you buy the same MikroTik, TP-Link Omada or Ubiquiti UniFi models from a local distributor. Shipping, customs duty and import taxes are quoted per order.

3. Install

A local electrician or IT partner fits the cabling and access points to our plan, with us on a WhatsApp or video call.

4. Remote setup and support

The router connects to the iberry cloud over an encrypted tunnel. We configure the hotspot, login page and limits remotely, then monitor it and make changes for you. Support is in English, by WhatsApp, phone and email; guest session records are held in India.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best hotspot billing system in Kenya?

The one that fits how you sell: for voucher hotspots look for batches per agent, speed and data caps per package, sales per site, a branded login page and no server to keep running at the site. iberry provides that as a managed cloud service on MikroTik, Omada or UniFi; it does not take M-Pesa on the login page today, so vouchers are sold by agents.

Is there free hotspot billing software in Kenya?

MikroTik's own User Manager and open-source RADIUS servers cost nothing, but you set up, host and maintain them yourself, and they come without agent reports or a managed login page. A managed service costs money but removes the server and the support work.

Which router do I need for a hotspot business in Kenya?

A MikroTik router sized to your peak users (hEX for a small site, RB4011 or RB5009 class for bigger ones) plus indoor or outdoor access points. We can ship it from India or you can buy it from a Kenyan distributor.

Can you set it up without coming to Kenya?

Yes. A local technician fits the hardware to our plan; we configure and manage everything remotely over an encrypted tunnel, with support in English by WhatsApp.

Starting or growing a hotspot in Kenya?

Tell us the town, the number of sites and how you sell access today. See also hotspot billing across Africa, how to start a WiFi hotspot business and, in Swahili, biashara ya WiFi. Outside India every project is quoted on its own: the hardware (shipped from India or bought locally), shipping and import duties, and the yearly remote management. Published India plans start at ₹30,000 one-time with ₹15,000 a year, as a guide to scale.
